認識老師 Jonathan Holmes
Jonathan Holmes graduated from the
University of South Wales with a degree in Combined Studies, focusing on
Education, Media Photography and Astrophysical Science. With a keen interest in
travel, he moved to South Korea in 2002.He visited Taiwan on vacation and
instantly fell in love with the food, people and countryside. Shortly after
this, he relocated to Taipei.
創辦人強納生・霍爾斯老師畢業於英國南威爾斯大學，主修教育、天文物理學、與攝影多媒體藝術，堪稱融合藝術、教育、科學於一身的全方位教育工作者。在一次偶然的旅行中來到台灣，因爲這裡的風土人情和鄉間美麗的田園景緻深深打動了他，因此決定在此定居，至今已經超過16個年頭。
I
have taught at a number of schools around the city and started to manage a
Buxiban in Muzha at the age of 26. At 31, I co-owned my first school and I am
still in contact, and still teach, many of those students. Having watched
hundreds of students progress through the elementary school system of Taiwan, I
have noticed the pressures on those students and the loss of inspiration for
learning. I have always strived to make my lessons fun without jeopardizing the
quality of education.
霍爾斯老師憑藉在本地多年的經驗，貢獻並貫徹自己英式教育的理念，滋養無數的在地學生，對於台灣的小學教育體系也有著深切感觸。看著本地小學生長年在課業至上的壓力下，逐漸失去對學習的動力與自發性，他想要盡一己之力，重新喚起台灣的孩子們對學習的初衷。
霍爾老師的方式很簡單：在不損害教學品質的前提下，盡一切可能讓學習這件事變得有趣，更要重新點燃學生們對於學習的『熱情之火』。
Even as a child I wanted to teach abroad. I
have traveled throughout Europe several times, so moving to Asia wasn’t
daunting at all. I love to read travel journals and fiction novels related to
exploration. Being able to work with people that wish to study or travel in the
West has given me the opportunity to help like-minded individuals, who wish to
follow a similar dream to see the world and better themselves with countless
experiences that aren't available if you stay in one place.
霍爾斯老師常常在世界各地旅行，對於那些想去西方進修或旅行的台灣學生，他也很開心能夠在英文上助他們一臂之力。他們的夢想有些想去探索世界、有些則是追尋更美好的自己。他們深知：如果只停留在一處，你將無法見識世界的遼闊與驚奇。所以無論你的目的為何，學好英文，就是你跟這個廣大世界交流的唯一鑰匙。
A number of students I first taught sixteen
years ago have studied at foreign universities and have stayed, or returned to
Taiwan. I remain in contact with many of them. I'm proud to say that I have not
only taught them to communicate, but helped motivate them to reach their goals.
A favorite quote of mine is: 'If you are not willing to learn, no one can help
you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you!'
霍爾斯老師曾經教過學生當中，有不少在國外就讀，畢業後繼續深造，也有些選擇回到台灣貢獻一己之長。對於他而言，從這些學生身上得到最大的成就，並非僅是建立英文能力而已，更驕傲的，是幫助學生們找到『 實現目標的動機。』如同霍爾斯老師奉為圭臬的金玉良言：『 如果你對學習欠缺慾望，再偉大的導師也幫不了你。反之，若你一旦具備想要學習的決心，那麼就沒人能阻擋的了你。』
